In order to remain certified by CAPPA, you must keep a continuous membership and renew your certification every three years from the original date you were certified. The recertification fee for every program is Rs.5000/-, and the requirements for each program are listed below. You can find our recertification forms here

Pregnancy Fitness Educator

The Pregnancy fitness educator certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of successful completion of the course. Following steps to be completed for recertification:

  • Maintain continuous CAPPA membership.
  • Submit proof of teaching 40 hours of Birth Fitness Sessions with at least 5 pregnant women.
  • Attend a refresher course of 4 hours as continuing education at the centre or document 15 hours of continuing education in pregnancy, labor, breast feeding or post partum issues approved by CAPPA.

New Parent Educator

  • Maintain continuous membership in CAPPA.
  • Document 15 hours of continuing education in Breastfeeding, Newborn care, Parental relationships or postpartum issues approved by CAPPA.
  • Submit good evaluations from three students.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from any of the following: certified childbirth educator, certified labor doula, certified nurse-midwife, obstetrician/gynecologist, pediatrician or IBCLC.

Labor Doula

  • Maintain continuous membership in CAPPA
  • Document 15 hours of continuing education in pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, or postpartum issues approved by CAPPA.
  • Submit good evaluations from three mothers for whom you have provided labor support.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from any of the following: certified childbirth educator, certified labor doula, certified nurse-midwife, obstetrician/gynecologist, or IBCLC.

Childbirth Educator

  • Maintain continuous membership in CAPPA.
  • Document 15 hours of continuing education in pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, or postpartum issues approved by CAPPA.
  • Submit good evaluations from three students.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from any of the following: certified childbirth educator, certified labor doula, certified nurse-midwife, obstetrician/gynecologist, or IBCLC.

Lactation Educator

  • Maintain continuous membership in CAPPA.
  • Document 15 hours of continuing education in lactation issues.
  • Submit a two page report on how you have grown as a CLE over the past three years.
  • Submit a two page review on each of three studies in lactation research published within one year of current date.

  • Submit good evaluation forms from 10 students. Evaluations should be from at least five different classes.
  • Submit signed forms for the lactation educator scope of practice, grievance policy, and code of conduct.
    (Forms F, G, & H.)
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from any of the following: certified childbirth educator, certified antepartum doula, certified postpartum doula, certified nurse-midwife, obstetrician/gynecologist, IBCLC, licensed, registered, or certified professional midwife, or registered/licensed practical nurse.

CAPPA certified members may use any of the following for the continuing education requirement.

  • CAPPA approved training.
  • CAPPA annual conference.
  • La Leche League meetings (max. 5 contact hours).
  • CAPPA distance labor doula training videos (max. 15 contact hours).
  • Book reports (min. 1,500 words) from required reading list (max. 5 contact hours).
  • Breastfeeding consultations as an observer with an IBCLC (max. 3 contact hours).

You may also use continuing education offers from the following:

  • American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM).
  • American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ACOG).
  • American Dietary Association (ADA).
  • American Medical Association (AMA).
  • American Nurses Association (ANA).
  • Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN).
  • International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, Inc. (IBLCE).
  • International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA).
  • Lamaze International.
  • Any state nurses association or board of nursing. (Must relate to pregnancy, birth, postpartum, or breastfeeding issues.)
  • Some programs provided by professional associations or health-care agencies. (Must relate to pregnancy, birth, postpartum, or breastfeeding issues.)

Other educational events must be submitted for approval and must provide a certificate of attendance with hours stated, and a detailed outline of the information that was presented, speakers, location, date, etc.
